Eve's Story

You kind people threw me a life line when I most needed one and I’ll be forever grateful for the care and love you have given my dog to make sure he was kept safe and I’m so thankful for all the help you have given me with furnishings and appliances in my lovely new home.

Today I moved out of temporary accommodation in to my own home. In the past couple of hours I’ve laughed, cried and sang. It’s a strange feeling and I’m not sure if it’s normal but it’s overwhelming and not long ago i had to pinch myself and thought is this really happening, this is it now I’ve actually done it.

I left my ex during the first lockdown. His job meant that he could still to go into work but it didn’t stop him from constantly checking up on me to make sure I didn’t leave. He told me that he had our neighbours watching me and If I tried to leave I wouldn’t get very far because they would let him know.
I was at rock bottom, the things he made me do was degrading and just so humiliating that I still can’t bring myself to talk about. He used my dog to threaten and control me and I thought I need to break free from him because If not it’s only going to get worse. I waited until he went to work and I called domestic abuse services. I found a place that did have space for me but I couldn’t take my dog with me.

The lady on the phone gave me some numbers to try but they was either closed or they couldn’t help. I thought there’s no way I’m leaving my dog because of how cruel my ex is and I knew he would torture him if I left. I rang literally every number I could find and one of them was rehouse to rehome. I explained my situation and I was over the moon when I heard they could help me and said they would come and collect him and make sure he was looked after until I was in a place that allowed pets. Rehouse to Rehome have done exactly that until today and now he’s back with me. I can’t stop hugging him. If this god sent charity didn’t help me that day I wouldn’t have been able to leave and I really have no idea what might have happened to me or my dog. I want to say that what you guys do is incredible.
You kind people threw me a life line when I most needed one and I’ll be forever grateful for the care and love you have given my dog to make sure he was kept safe and I’m so thankful for all the help you have given me with furnishings and appliances in my lovely new home.

You’ll never know what your help means to me and thank you so much for really caring.
